What’s New For The 2017 Nissan Altima?
2017 Nissan Altima is a testament to Nissan’s desire to keep up with the times. Historically, Altima is one of America’s best-selling vehicles, and the latest model is a clear indication that the model is not ready to relinquish its position. Nissan Altima for the 2017 model year is availed with a vast range of trim configurations and powertrain specifications. The Altima is offered in five trims: the Base Altima, the Altima S, the Altima SV, the Altima SR, and the Altima SL.
All cars offer frugal fuel consumptions, excellent safety features, and spacious interiors regardless of trim. The Altima underwent complete styling last year, but the current model still comes with several modifications on the front and rear fascias. Notable among these changes includes re-sculpted fenders, a V-shaped grille, and the provision for LED headlights. The cockpit has an upscale feel with an uncluttered dashboard and logically-arrayed controls and dials.
The Altima’s long wheelbase allows a substantial legroom even for rear passengers to ensure that all of its five seating positions are equally comfortable. The front seats feature some NASA design cues, so you know what to expect. Last year’s sound deadening features that comprise acoustic glass are carried over to the new model.
2017 Nissan Altima presents two engine options: a four-cylinder and a six cylinder. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is good for 182 horsepower, and 180 lb-ft of torque is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with simulated gears to direct power to the front wheels.
The available 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine pumps out 270 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and employs a similar CVT. EPA fuel estimates place the four-cylinder engine at 31 mpg combined (27 city/39 highway). The V6 engine is expected to return 26 mpg combined (22 city/32 highway). In Edmunds’ performance testing, an Altima 2.5 SV made a quick dash to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds while an Altima fitted with the V6 covered the same distance in just 6.2 seconds.
