2017 Nissan Armada Review
More power, more curb appeal and a more gracious interior are hallmarks of the all-new 2017 Nissan Armada. It’s clear that engineers, designers and technology experts all had a hand in the redesign.
What’s New for the 2017 Nissan Armada?
For starters, the Armada has new body-on-frame construction. This is similar to its cousin the Infiniti QX80. Handling is less truck-like, although the SUV has higher ground clearance than before. The new powertrain has a take-no-prisoners 5.6-liter V-8. Outlay is rated at 390 horsepower and 394 lb.-ft. of torque. The rear wheel drive train benefits from a limited slip differential for better cornering. A low-range capability expands the capability of the four-wheel drivetrain. Capable of towing up to 8,500 pounds, the vehicle now has a tow mode. Safety has also been enhanced by the SUV’s new build. Stronger than before, it can withstand intrusions better. In addition to its safety protections, there are now crash avoidance features.
The SurroundView camera adds moving object detection. A blind spot monitor comes paired with a rear cross-traffic alert. Automatic emergency braking is strengthened by a forward collision warning. Even in rear collision situations, the autobrake can help the driver. Likewise, a steering assist is part of the lane departure warning system. A package adds side mirrors with auto-dimming and power-defrosting. Automatic wipers can relieve the driver’s stress on a rainy day.
Matching the Infiniti QX80 once again, the Armada’s interior offers a higher scale design and material quality. The resulting atmosphere and true comfort make it more luxurious than its pricetag suggests. Spaciousness has expanded, too, with a new third row area that is bigger than the Chevy Tahoe. Eight seats are typical, but the Platinum offers seven with center captain’s chairs. Second-row seats recline, and front chairs are power adjustable. Push button start and a programmable dual-control thermostat expand the modern vibe. In the leather-clad SL edition, drivers enjoy a power-adjustable steering wheel. Platinum editions have added leather door trim and climate controlled front seats. Power-heat is added to the steering wheel and second-row seats.
On the dash, a large touchscreen puts a world of music at your command. Sound surrounds you with a 13-speaker Bose audio system. Bluetooth streaming audio, USB interface, a CD player, and satellite radio connectivity offer extensive music and information outlets. The standard rearview camera can be enhanced by more cameras for a 360-degree view. Kids will appreciate the Platinum edition’s dual headrest-mounted displays. These come with dual USB ports and a DVD player. For cargo, favorite features include the power-fold third-row bench and the power liftgate. Keeping things competitive, the Armada has a bigger hold and a lower liftover height than the Chevy Tahoe.
