What’s New for the 2017 Nissan Rogue?
Under the hood, this year’s Rogue remains largely unchanged. Its reliable 2.5L four-cylinder engine (170 horsepower, 175 lb-ft torque), is the standard and only engine for all Rogue models, except for the Sport, which is a newly introduced trim level that Nissan offers for this compact crossover SUV. The Sport is slightly smaller and has a different engine, a 2.0L four-cylinder that produces 141 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque. Both the 2.5L and the 2.0L are mated to Nissan’s XTronic continuously-variable speed transmission (CVT) for increased efficiency and low-end torque.
Most changes to this year’s Rogue are noticeable in the interior. Nissan invested a considerable amount of time to create a quieter cabin with thicker rear glass, denser carpets and additional sound deadening and insulation in the dashboard. All of this new construction aims to reduce road noise by about 9 percent while driving, according to the manufacturer. The dashboard controls and instrument panel, in general, acquire a more clean, organized appearance over last year’s model to improve the ergonomics for drivers. The exterior of the Rogue has been adjusted slightly as well, as it now features a more assertive-looking front bumper and grille as well as LED headlights. Other convenience features available on the new 2017 Rogue include:
- Heated steering wheel
- Heated exterior side mirrors
- Motion-activated trunk door
- Remote starter
As for driver assistance features, Nissan has added a few new ones to their suite of electronic safety features for the Rogue. Lane departure warning has been added to improve safety during highway driving, joining the existing blind spot prevention and rear-cross traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is also available now, which automatically slows or speeds up the car while drivers have cruise control enabled in order to maintain a safe distance with the car in front. The emergency braking system now features a pedestrian-detection component, as the previous year’s model only detected cars to prevent a collision.
