What’s New for the 2018 Nissan Frontier?

As one of the “oldest” nameplates in the midsize pickup truck segment, the Nissan Frontier has always been a well-rounded truck. And that explains why it enters the 2018 model year virtually untouched. With two body configurations available (the two-door King Cab and four-door Crew Cab), the 2018 Nissan Frontier is split into S, SV, Desert Runner, SL, and PRO-4X trims.

On the new Frontier truck, you can go with one of two available engines: the QR25DE and the VQ40DE. The former is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that generates 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, while the other is a 4.0-liter V6 that generates 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the trim configuration, the engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, 5-speed manual transmission, or 6-speed manual transmission. Also, you have the choice between a rear-wheel drive system for improved front-to-back weight distribution and a four-wheel drivetrain for better driving performance on rough terrain. In terms of maximum occupancy, the King Cab model accommodates four people, while the Crew Cab can handle up to five occupants. In addition, the Crew Cab provides more comfort and convenience features, which include cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity for streaming audio and making and taking hands-free phone calls, illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls, and a six-speaker stereo system that is accompanied by a 5-inch color display screen. As you upgrade in trim, you increase your chance of getting additions or enhancements like a rearview camera, remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, hands-free text messaging ability, voice recognition, a 5.8-inch color touchscreen, auto-dimming on the rearview mirror to dim headlight glare from the vehicle behind you, and front-seat power adjustability and heating capability. The top-trim PRO-4x gets exclusive trim-badged embroidered cloth trim, with the option to replace it with leather-covering. For cushioning and restraint in the event of a crash, the 2018 Nissan Frontier comes with dual front impact airbags, which face the driver and front passenger; dual seat-mounted airbags for side impact protection; and dual roof-mounted side curtains that flank all rows for head protection. Also standard on the Frontier are electronic vehicle stability control to keep the truck on the intended driving path, traction control to reduce skidding, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution for optimal stopping ability. On four-wheel-drive Nissan Frontier trucks with automatic transmissions, Nissan adds hill start and hill descent control systems to safety drive up or down a hill. And some upper-level trims an anti-theft system, which unites remote keyless entry with engine immobilization.
